County Down word of the week - Aithris

Some of you may know that ársaigh was normally used in Oriel Irish as the verb to tell, taking the place of inis.

The word ársaigh normally means tell / relate in Irish.

In County Down aithris takes the place of ársaigh / inis. It normally means recite, narrate.

Here are some examples ....

Aithris an fhírinne - tell the truth
Fan go n-aithreasa mé dhuit - wait till I tell you.
